Extrahypothalamic distribution of CRH, long suspected from results of bioassay studies, has now been confirmed by more specific methods. Its distribution indicates that CRH can be regarded (as is the case of TRH and somatostatin) as a gut-brain peptide.
Unlike other hypophysiotrophic factors, CRH is bound in neurones and in blood (during pregnancy) to a specific binding protein.
